Synopsis Person of Interest Season 5, Episode 6
Reese is given the assignment as lead in dealing with the latest number
by the Machine, it a number for a marriage license, that of heiress
Phoebe Turner, whose father, Kent Turner, owns a $1 billion horse
breeding/racing business, and Will O'Brien, a relatively poor public
defender. Finch's initial thought is that Will is the intended target as
someone, perhaps Kent, probably does not want him to get his hands on
any of the Turners' vast wealth. The best way to deny the perpetrator's
intention is to make sure that the wedding proceeds as planned, which
means the team infiltrating the wedding. While Finch devises a way for
Reese to use his masculine good looks in getting an invite, Finch
decides to assist in also being at the wedding, masquerading as one of
Will's relatives from Ireland. Finch probably wishes that he did more
research into "Uncle Ralph" before choosing this identity as his way in.
They will find that the situation is more complex as one of Phoebe's
bridesmaids is ...Review :
Fusco in Top Form! (Vague spoilers)(Vague spoilers). I revised and slightly upgraded this review after watching the episode a second time. It grew on me a bit.
A MORE PERFECT UNION was okay, but one could skip most of it without losing continuity. It is one of the cutest episodes, offering up some entertaining fan-appeal featuring Finch, Reese, and Root at a wedding. Humor and action served up with sexy strippers and thoroughbred steeds, embellished with clever quips, lucky horseshoes, and unlikely karate flips. It's also a little bittersweet, toasting lost dreams with the finest bourbon, thanks to a gorgeous tuxedo-clad Reese.
Fusco's mission felt solid and was far more compelling than the wedding op, and I multi-tasked during Shaw's virtual reality scenes, but I'd watch the whole thing again just to hear Emerson sing Twisted Sister: "We're Not Gonna Take It" at the reception. A traditional Irish folk song. Lol. Who knew? (Great fight song for Team Machine.)
Basic plot outlines:
To prevent a murder, Reese and Finch attend a wedding weekend in horse country, upstate New York. Root joins them, mostly because she's lonely, but also to talk with Finch about how to give the Machine an edge over Samaritan. Reese and Root team up to take down the hired guns.
Meanwhile, back in NYC, detective Fusco takes Bear (yay for Bear!) on a hunt for missing persons. Based on a tip from Root, he also tracks down a man named Carpenter who takes bribes for city demolition permits. Bruce Moran is involved in this plot thread. Sadly.
All this occurs while Greer and Samaritan's young avatar Gabriel try to convince Shaw that they do more good than does Team Machine, in virtual reality scenes. A change of tactics, appealing to Shaw's logic and her training to destroy terrorist and protect America. Mildly interesting at best, but at least we see the source of the nuclear bomb scene in the series montage. I hope we are done with virtual reality. Free the Shaw!
Fusco's fate is left hanging in the balance at the end. Hopefully Bear can help him.
