Synopsis Twisted: Season 1, Episode 7

Jo and Lacey are tired of not knowing why Danny did the things he did in the past, so they try to get it out of him. Also, Jo is beginning to realize that she might like Danny as more than friends, while Lacey is conflicted about her own feelings for him. Meanwhile, Chief Masterson tries to get on Karen's good side to see if she will talk about the necklace, one of Danny's soccer teammates is food poisoned, with all evidence pointing to Danny, and a new kid named Tyler shows up at Green Grove High, immediately getting a crush on Jo.

Review :

The show goes deeper into the mystery of love and makes Regina's murder, again, a secondary topic

As of "We Need to Talk About Danny," I feel the show is starting to lose its balance between the mystery and personal drama between characters. And, I think, first and foremost, we have to recognize how hard it maybe to write a compelling mystery series. However, when the show decided to start making Jo more obvious with her feelings for Danny, and rush this weird chemistry between Lacey and Danny, I feel it started to take away from the great aspects of the show, and tried to become increasingly marketable to fans of its lead in Pretty Little Liars.

After all, both deal with murder mysteries where a popular girl, who was a bitch to some, gets murdered. But, unlike Pretty Little Liars, we actually have suspects who may have killed Regina, while Aly's murder has become so complex, as well as the whole "Who is A?" situation, the show has become convoluted. Which leads me to a slight issue with Twisted. While we have a slew of suspects, it feels like there is no real pressure or urgency to find out who did it. I mean, the writing on the show has it where who like or who cheated on who gets more intricate than the murder. Tess had relations with Karen before Karen and Vik were married, Jo like Danny and Danny likes Lacey, then Rico is off to the side wishing someone would like him. Meanwhile, the only thing that is being done with the murder is Kyle trying to find a necklace which may have been Regina's but there is still the issue of who gave the necklace to Regina in the first place?

Overall, my issue with this episode, if not the show, is we were introduced to a mystery and a compelling character in Danny Desai, and as we met more and more people, it seemed like we were going to get a show which was a bit weird, but had something new to bring to ABC Family's long history of having mysteries fill their programming. However, with each episode it feels that Danny is losing his luster and Jo and Lacey are just becoming two girls obsessed with kissing Danny and trying to make sure he is innocent so they can have him forever and ever. There doesn't seem to be personal problems outside of what Danny might have caused. If anything, the adults have probably became better characters since Karen is now working, Tess is holding her pottery class and the two actually further theories the fans can make by talking about Vikram's infidelity and temper. At this point, I feel the show may try to go back and forth between adding clues for us then focusing on the love triangle, and while it may seem like a good idea to someone at ABC Family, I do wonder if them sort of trying to replicate Pretty Little Liars' success by using what may have kept that on air, will actually work for Twisted in the long run.
